The AMEB Cello Series 3 is a collection of examination repertoire and supplementary learning resources designed to support developing cellists. Published by the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB), the series covers Preliminary to Grade 4, offering a carefully selected range of music that develops technical ability, musical expression and performance confidence. Each grade book includes piano accompaniment for its accompanied pieces.
Developed in consultation with leading Australian cellists and music educators, the series brings together their extensive experience in performance, teaching and examination. Featuring a diverse selection of traditional repertoire and contemporary works by Australian composers, including Loreta Fin, Stephen Chin, Matthew Hindson, Elena Kats-Chernin and Aaron Wyatt, the collection reflects a modern approach to cello education while introducing students to a broad range of musical styles.
Carefully coordinated with the revised AMEB Cello Syllabus, the repertoire supports progressive technical development and musical interpretation, making the grade books suitable for AMEB Comprehensive and Repertoire examinations, weekly music lessons and independent performance preparation.
Supplementary Learning Resources
The AMEB Cello Technical Work book covers Preliminary to Grade 8, featuring scales, arpeggios and technical exercises designed to strengthen intonation, bowing control, finger coordination and overall playing technique. Alongside the core requirements, introductory Try This First exercises provide additional support, while optional Extra for Experts activities offer further challenges for confident students.
The AMEB Cello Sight-Reading book includes over 100 graded practice examples, helping students develop reading fluency, rhythmic accuracy and confidence when approaching unfamiliar music. Designed to complement the revised syllabus, it provides a practical resource for regular lessons, independent practice and examination preparation.
