The Maestoso Series Violins represent a step up within the Orion violin range, moving into the level of professional workshop-made instruments. These violins are crafted exclusively by a select group of the workshop’s most experienced and highly trained luthiers, makers who have dedicated 10 to 30 years refining their craft and focus solely on producing professional-quality instruments.
Because each violin is built and overseen by only a small number of master makers, every detail receives exceptional attention. From wood selection and graduation to tonal adjustment and response testing, these violins are built to a standard where consistency and performance are prioritised at every stage. The result is an instrument with outstanding build quality, tonal complexity, and responsiveness.
The Maestoso Series is designed with a larger, stronger character and a more soloistic voice, offering greater projection, depth, and presence. These instruments are often custom-built either by the workshop or commissioned specifically for us, therefore varnish colours and visual character may vary between instruments, making each violin slightly unique.
We generally recommend the Maestoso Series for players at approximately AMEB Grade 5 and above, where a more refined instrument can begin to support developing tone production, musical expression, and performance demands.
What is the difference between the Grazioso and Maestoso Series violins?
While both the Grazioso and Maestoso series are produced by our award-winning workshop, the Maestoso sits at a higher level of craftsmanship and material selection.
The Maestoso instruments are built exclusively by the workshop’s most experienced luthiers and generally feature higher-grade European maple and spruce, with selected timbers reserved specifically for this professional line. The overall result is typically a violin with greater tonal depth, projection, complexity, and refinement.
The Grazioso Series offers excellent balance and versatility, whereas the Maestoso is voiced with a more powerful and solo-oriented direction.
Why is the Maestoso Series ideal for Intermediate to Advanced players?
As players progress, they begin to demand more from their instrument, greater dynamic range, stronger projection, richer colour, and more responsiveness.
The Maestoso Series provides developing and advanced musicians with an opportunity to experience an instrument capable of producing rich, resonant tones and a more mature tonal palette, while remaining accessible compared with higher-end handmade violins.
Built using the same traditional violin-making principles found in our upper-tier instruments, the Maestoso Series has craftsmanship, playability, and tonal beauty into an instrument designed to support years of musical growth.
Before reaching players, every instrument is carefully prepared and adjusted by our Australian luthiers and apprentices to ensure each violin performs at its best from the moment it leaves our workshop.
The term "outfit" means this violin comes complete with a case and bow. It includes an oblong (rectangular) case with plenty of pocket space and a wooden bow with an ebony frog.
