New for 2025, Orion Music proudly presents the Andante III violin, the latest entry-level model inspired by the best-selling OVL100 (now rebranded as the Andante II). Made in the same award-winning workshop, the Andante III redefines the standard for student violins—crafted from genuine spruce and maple, partially hand-made with CNC assistance, and hand-finished to a high standard by the Orion Strings team. Featuring a rich ruby red Italian varnish and benefiting from the workshop's recently expanded timber inventory, this instrument offers exceptional quality and value for beginners.
What is the difference between the Adagio and Andante series violins?
The Andante violins are crafted as intermediate-level instruments, offering superior quality and craftsmanship. Handmade with higher-grade tonewoods, these violins are meticulously produced in our award-winning workshop, which earned first place in the 2014 Malta Violin Making Competition. In contrast, the Adagio series is crafted in a different factory to our exacting standards for entry-level violins.
Key distinctions include the techniques and finishes: while parts of the Andante violin, such as the neck and body plates, are initially CNC machine-cut from blocks of spruce or maple, the final stages of scraping, planing, and thickness adjustments are done by hand the traditional method. The Andante violins are finished with a natural spirit-based varnish, like those found on professional-grade violins. This varnish is lightweight, enhancing the instrument's resonance, whereas the Adagio series uses a spray-on PU mixture for a more durable and water resistance finish. All Andante violins receive a professional setup in our workshop in Australia for the final touches.
Why is the Andante III Perfect for Beginner Players?
The Andante III violin offers exceptional tonal quality and craftsmanship at its price point, standing out as a truly unique option in today’s market. Built from genuine tonewoods and finished with premium varnishes, each instrument also benefits from our professional setup, ensuring it is ready to play from day one. Designed for growth, the Andante III has the ability to develop its tone over time, and with further adjustments by professional luthiers or upgraded strings, it can perform to an impressively high standard—making it a violin built for success from the very beginning.
Our Australian luthiers and apprentices ensure every violin is expertly prepared so that every player has an equal opportunity to enjoy a well-made instrument.
The term "outfit" means this violin comes complete with a case and bow. It includes an oblong (rectangular) case with plenty of pocket space and a wooden bow with an ebony frog.
