The Yamaha C1 is a 5′3″ (161 cm) baby grand piano that was built at Yamaha’s Hamamatsu factory in Japan, the same facility responsible for their top-tier concert instruments. A 1995 model falls into Yamaha’s C-series line, which is recognized as the Conservatory series designed to deliver professional-level performance in a compact size. Currently comparable to the C1X Yamaha model.
Measuring about 161 cm in length, 149 cm in width, and weighing around 290 kg, the C1 is the smallest of the C-series grands. Despite its compact footprint, it carries the hallmarks of Yamaha’s higher-tier builds, making it ideal for both home and studio use where space is limited but tonal quality cannot be compromised.
In terms of construction, the C1 features a solid spruce soundboard, a composite action mechanism, and Ivorite keytops, a durable ivory substitute that resists glare and slipping. Other refinements include maple hammers, a full sostenuto pedal, and a traditional grand-style fallboard and music rack. Together, these features give the C1 a refined and responsive playing experience.
