Hagen Weise has been active since 1991 when he commenced work for the Roderisch Paesold Company in Bubenreuth, Germany. In 2004 Weise successfully completed his master violin-making examination. Since 2010 Weise has been dedicated to making fine instruments in his own workshop in Baiersdorf, often experimenting with different kinds of woods and models of different makers. This violin comes with photos and a certificate of authenticity from the maker.
This violin is labelled "Hagen Weise / Baiersdorf" along with a year and a workshop number, and is based on a Guadagnini model. The body measures 356mm along the back, 167mm across the upper bouts and 206mm across the lower bouts. It has a two-piece back of highly flamed maple with a tight curl, and matching ribs and scroll. The top is of a very finely grained spruce, and the violin is finished with ebony fittings and an amber-red varnish on a golden ground.
It has a broad and powerful character, full of energy, which reacts readily to any change in the bow or character. It projects well and with little effort, making it a great choice for people working mostly with solo repertoire. It has an easy playability, and so would be well-suited to players in late high school or doing tertiary study.
